I am lucky enough to have experienced some decent business growth over a short space of time, in my marketing business. In this blog post, I will share with you eight tips that have helped me build and maintain a successful business mindset, which I hope can help you achieve success in your business too.
1. Purpose and vision
It is so important to have a really clear vision around what you want to be able to achieve in your business, life, and the impact you want to have on your clients and their customers. Your purpose must be higher than just wanting to make lots of money.
Write down your purpose and vision, and visualise it daily. Feel it, as if it has already happened.
The written word is a very powerful thing, so get it out of your head and onto paper. And on the days when you are having a bad day, pull out that piece of paper and read your vision and purpose to be inspired to push forward.
This has been a massive one for me. I start each day by standing in front of the mirror, and saying out loud, all of the things that I am grateful for in my life.
Then each night when I put my daughter to bed, I get her to repeat after me, all the things she is grateful for. She is three, so I thought it would be nice to start her appreciating all that she has in her life, from a young age.
We also say positive affirmations together each night before we go to sleep. Having an abundance mindset is a really powerful feeling, and amazing things start to happen.
3. Daily Rituals
Each day I have a series of rituals that I do, to keep me focused, positive and disciplined, and I highly recommend doing these rituals:
- Get up at 5am
- Intermittent fasting twice per week
- Read a book/listen to an audio book
- Listen to podcasts
- Gratitude and positive affirmations
- Guided meditation every single night, before bed, which allow me to fall into a restful sleep.
- Go to bed at the same time each night
- Reflect back on my day while lying in bed and assess what went well, what could have gone better, and what did I learn from this.
4. Love what you do
I guess this is a no-brainer, but you must really love what you do! This will help you to push through the highs and lows of running your own business.
When you love what you do, it gives you the drive and motivation to succeed, exceed your goals and have an impact on those around you. It’s your passion for what you do, that will push you to keep on going, keep evolving and becoming better, each and every day. Challenging yourself to be greater
From the moment I launched Vivacity Marketing I was searching for a cause that I could support that would really make a difference in people lives, and resonate with me. That cause I found was Opportunity International Australia, which provides micro-finance loans to women living in poverty, so that they can start their own small business, and have a better future for their kids.
Once I heard about this I just knew I had found my cause! I donate to Opportunity every month, and I feel like I have a duty and a calling to help those around me, who are less fortunate, be successful too.
Being generous feels good. It’s nice going to bed each night knowing that I am making a difference in someone life.
And I am also very generous with my knowledge, I want other small business owners to succeed so I educate and share tips regularly.
6. Surround yourself with greatness
From the very start of my entrepreneurial journey I have invested in personal development, mentors, workshops, attending talks and more. This ensures I am around successful people all the time.
Find business owners who are where you want to be, learn from them. Put yourself in situations where you are the person who knows the least in the room, that’s how you will learn and grow.
There are so many inspiring business owners in Perth, I feel very blessed to be able to surround myself with such talent regularly, and learn and grow as a result.
7. Idea time
Ideas come to you when you are least expecting it. So keep an ideas notebook handy to jot your ideas down. And make sure you give yourself 25 minutes per day of quiet head space. For example going for a walk without your headphones in. You will be amazed what pops into your mind!
Listening to podcasts, studying your craft and reading books, will all help you to stay inspired and keep ideas flowing for your business.
8. Focus and resilience
You need to have laser focus to succeed in business. Business isn’t for everyone.
The highs are amazing but the lows are excruciating. It takes absolute determinations, motivation and crystal clear focus to keep you moving forward and achieving what you have set out to do.
But keep going, as the long hours, and lean moments will be worth it in the long run. I also go to an Energy Therapist (Kinesiologist) when I have internal blocks, which are holding me back in business. I have found to be hugely beneficial. Try it!
