Marketing a travel agency

In this blog, I will illustrate how Vivacity Marketing has helped the independent travel agency Platinum Travel, to increase their monthly revenue by 40%, through the Vivacity Marketing Coaching service. The travel industry is highly competitive so when Platinum Travel first approached me they had a solid business, with a decent turnover but they were stuck, and unsure how to grow their business further.

Meet Platinum Travel – Your continental concierge

Platinum Travel have been operating for about 10 years. They are based in Dublin, Ireland and they create tailor made holiday packages for their clients and specialise in trips to the U.S., from Ireland. They have survived the 2009 recession and in 2017 they approached me about working with them to  help with with their:

  • Marketing strategy
  • Marketing planning
  • Enhancing their website
  • And they needed some guidance on how to grow their business and revenue.

Business challenges

Platinum Travel had been doing their own marketing, however they felt that they were just jumping from tactic to tactic without any clear plan of attack or direction. They had no no marketing experience and were confused as to what activities would help them grow their business, and give them a great return on investment.

They were really daunted by the world of digital marketing, and felt as if they were missing opportunities all the time. Platinum Travel wanted to increase their annual revenue by 15%, but needed some direction to help them get there.

Our approach

Platinum Travel didn’t have a marketing strategy or a marketing plan in place. So our starting point was to have a two hour marketing consultation so that I could fully understand their business, existing marketing activity, processes and revenue streams. We agreed that marketing coaching twice per month would be the best path forward, as Platinum Travel wanted to learn how to market their business effectively.

We then commenced working together on:

  • Building their marketing strategy
  • Building their marketing plan
  • Setting business, sales and marketing goals
  • Market research to validate their buyer personas/ideal customers
  • And setting some metrics in  place that we could track each month.

40% increase in revenue

January is the busiest month for Platinum Travel as this is when many customers want to book their holidays. Revenue for January 2018 is up +40% versus January 2017. Their website visits have doubled, and website conversions have increased, as have their Facebook engagement and number of new customer bookings.
